I've decided to start this blog as a way to help promote bands i'm currently enjoying. Everything that is posted here will be stuff that i physically own and any download links that are posted are intended to be used for people to gain a good idea of the music, album etc. If you like what you hear delete the files and buy the album, because if artisits don't get paid for the work they can't make more music etc etc etc. (you know what i'm getting at).

Witchclan - Misanthropist
Genre: Black Metal
Origin: United Kingdom
Some amazing black metal here from the UK in the form of Witchclan. Anyone who has viewed this page previously will know of my fondness for Witchclan and their own brand of black metal. Witchclan hailing from Suffolk are the product of mastermind Matt Bass who in the early 90's was one of the founding memebers of the band. However in 1995 after releasing two demos the band split and the Witchclan name lay dormant seemingly never to return. But in 2009 Matt decided to resurect the Witchclan name and pick up where he left off, but this time he would be working alone in order to control every aspect of the bands sound and songwriting. In 2010 and early 2011 two further demos were released as this full length was being worked on, but now after around 20 years this, Witchclans debut full length has seen the light of day. and what do you suppose it sounds like?????? Well it sounds like you'd expect, it sounds like cold, dark, pitch black metal in the vein of Darkthrone, Immortal, Emperor etc. But unlike many bands formed in the modern day, this doesn't sound like a mere retread of former glories. This sounds like a classic second wave black metal album which if released in 95 or 96 would be hailed as a classic release from an amazing british black metal band. I personally hope this one doesn't fly under the radar and that it gets the recognition and plaudits it truly deserves, from black metal's past witchclan have came shrieking into its future with this their debut full length cementing it's place as being utterly essential black metal. All hail Witchclan M/

Mare Cognitum - The Sea Which Has Become Known
Genre: Black Metal
Origin: United States
Born in the concrete jungle of Santa Ana, Mare Cognitum is a black metal band consisting of one member, Jacob Buczarski. This project began as an attempt to carve out it’s own territory in the wider scope of black metal - a movement often viewed as a clouded sea of imitation and duplicity. This previous statement is the only shred of available information i have managed to find on this project and release. Seemingly shrouded in mystery and clearly reluctant to reach a wider audience, this is actually quite a shame as this five track mini album from mare cognitum is well worth your time. Playing a style of atmospheric black metal with a heavy use of keyboards mare cognitum don't produce anything mind blowingly original and seemingly wear their influences proudly on their sleeve, with Emperor and Wolves In The Throne Room springing to mind on more than one occasion. However i strongly suggest anyone who is a fan of the aforementioned bands and black metal in general to check this out. as far as i'm aware there has been no physical release and the album has only been released digitally through bandcamp.

Rhinocervs - The Odour Of Dust & Rot
Genre: Black Metal
Origin: United States
Having already been a fan of the crepsculo negro label and it's associated bands it was only natural that i also check out the rhinocervs label which is apparently ran by the man behind the Glossolalia project. After the first two untitled mini compilations were released, the way was paved for this monsterous behemoth. Put bluntly if you were remotley a fan of the first two rhinocervs compilations you must own this! The sheer immense quality of the labels releases is nothing short of phenomenal and with the news of yet another untitled compilation due to be released any time now, the future looks bright (or dark) for this small underground label.

The Black Twilight Circle - Worship Black Twilight
Genre: Black Metal
Origin: United States
The black twilight circle' original compilation. Although it was beleived to be out of press not long after it's original release the guys at the Crepsculo Negro label announced a few months ago that they had found a small number of copies in their lock-up and made them available for sale. These were to be the last ones available ever and me being an avid fan of the collectives output i made sure to get myself hold of one. For anyone who has already heard the collectives other official release this will be nothing new. Six tracks from six different bands creating one awesome compilation cd of amazing black metal. If you don't already own the material of the bands featured on here i suggest downloading this as a great introduction to some of the most exciting black metal coming out of the US at the moment.

Witchclan - Promo Tape 2011
Genre: Black Metal
Origin: United Kingdom
Witchclan are a band still firmly rooted in the UK underground, but were also part of the original black metal scene of the early 90's. Having release two demos in 90 & 91 the band eventually split and the witchclan name remained dormant for a number of years. Then in 2009 Matt Bass one of the members of the band decided to start the Witchclan name up again as a solo project in order for him to fully oversee every aspect of the bands sound and writing. With a new demo released in 2010 Matt struck a deal to release a full length album which is to be released September/October through Darkness Shade records. The full length is titled Misanthropist and pre-orders are already being taken. However a small amount of promo tapes had been made (limited run of 15) to be sent to labels in order for them to hear the new material. Most of these were sent out with 2 or 3 remaining, these tapes contain the rough versions of three of the tracks that will appear on the final album. Me being a hoarding collector at heart and already a fan of the band after buying their original demo contacted Matt and managed to get my hands on one. After the first listen i knew the full length was going to be amazing, the comparison with the 2010 demo is night and day. Every aspect of the sound, song writing, composition etc has taken massive strides forward and made this a release i am anticipating to a massive degree.
Track Listing:
1. Intro
2. Conqueror
3. Through Nordic Lands
4. Misanthropist

Grimorc - The Devil's Touch
Genre: Black Metal
Origin: Finland
A one man project from Finland in the form of Grimorc. This their second demo and only other release since 2002 is very heavily worshiping at the altar of Burzum, and to be honest this is the reason it works so well. It could just come accross like a blatant rip off of one of black metals best bands, but instead it's more of a humble homage in honour of the style that Varg created. With this in mind, this release actually comes accross really well and is basically for anyone who's ever remotley enjoyed a Burzum album. No online rip of this but copies of the tape are still floating around in distros. check it out if you get the chance.
Track Listing
1. My Revenge
2. Heroes Of The War
3. The God Of Total War
4. The Devil's Touch
5. Through The Dismal Path
6. The Darklords Ring

Ashdautas - Where the Sun Is Silent
Genre: Black Metal
Origin: US
A more melodic proposition from the black twilight circle with vocals that are the stuff of nighmares, Ashdautas have always taken the melodic yet chaotic approach when it comes to their own brand of black metal. This there newest release is essentially more of the same and continues in the same vein of their previous releases, however this time the song writing and execution are a bit more developed and make this release their best so far. A must have for fans of dark and chaotic black metal.

Blue Hummingbird On The Left - Bloodflower
Genre: Black Metal
Origin: US
Another brilliant release from the black twilight circle. Originally released on cassette and now released on 7 inch vinyl, this 3 song ep contains a powerful raw riff powered black metal beast with all the poorly recorded charm of previous black twilight releases. Lyrically focusing on mexican nationalism and pride with a musical twist added to the mix in the form of traditional mexican insturments. As bizzare as this is made to sound it works amzingly well with the traditional instruments complimenting the black metal onslaught that blue hummingbird on the left deliver.

Hate Forest - Purity
Genre: Black Metal
Origin: Ukraine
Before Drudkh, there was Hate Forest. Roman Saenko the mastermind behind numerous acts in the Ukranian black metal scene plays some all out full tilt aggressive black metal here, but with a twist........ Death metal vocals!?!? Yes it's true, undoubtedly Hate Forests best release (although some do view it as being slightly one dimensional) pins you to the wall throughout it's duration and doesn't leg go until the final note of cromlech have finished. A must have for fans of raw and fast black metal.

Atavism - Atavism
Genre: Black Metal
Origin: Australia
Extremely raw and hate filled classic black metal from Australia, calling upon the spirits of the mid ninties second wave bands. Unfortunately after releasing this one solitary demo (limited to 50 copies) the band split for reasons unknown thus leaving this only (very limited release) as their lasting legacy within the genre.
Track Listing
1. Odium
2. Despondent
3. Serpent
4. Conflagration
Sorry no links for this one, there is a copy still available at

for anyone who would like to get their hands on what surely is one of the last available copies of this amazing piece of raw primal black metal.
Drudkh - Forgotten Legends
Genre: Black Metal
Origin: Ukraine
Drudkh's first album combines Burzum like repetitiveness with the atmosphere and mystery of the Ukranian landscape which surrounds them. From here the band would go on to release many more landmark albums and are continually active today (also with chief composer Roman Saenko playing in other bands such as Hate Forest and Blood Of Kingu) An amazing piece of atmospheric black metal recomended to almost anyone who is a fan of the genre. Drudkh have went on to produce better work, but this is were it all started.
Track Listing

2. Forests In Fire And Gold
3. Eternal Turn Of The Wheel
